April 21, 2013

Metal Events, an 11-year-old events company specialising in the metals industry, has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the highest official UK award for British business, after doubling its export sales over just three years.

The London-based company, which develops and runs mining and metals events and conferences worldwide and is owned and managed by the original founders – Jill Fitzgibbon and Rachel Carnac, was awarded the accolade today (on the Queen’s birthday) for its outstanding achievement in international trade. Overseas sales increased by 100 percent between the financial years ended December 2009 and December 2011.

“Rachel and I are extremely proud to have received this prestigious award which recognises our hard work in starting the business and growing it over the past decade,” said Jill Fitzgibbon, joint managing director. “We are lucky to have worked with some fantastic suppliers and partners over the years, and would like to thank them for their support.”

Jill and Rachel have almost 45 years’ experience between them in the metals industry encompassing base metals, steel, ferro-alloys and minor metals. Metal Events has developed a niche in conferences focused on metals used in green technology, including rare earths, and has a strong presence in Asia. The company has recently taken on a third member of staff as it expands.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are presented on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and with Her Majesty the Queen’s approval. The Awards were inaugurated in 1966 and are awarded to businesses for outstanding achievement in international trade, innovation and sustainable development.
